Getting the heat out Last Update: June 7, 2009 0:13 AM
For cooling, I again used PRC Inc to fabricate a custom radiator that very nearly bolts right up. I moved the stock lower radiator mount forward one bolt hole to allow a little more clearance to the engine. Also, I flipped over the AC condenser tabs so it too get moved forward about 1.5 inches.
Next, I had a custom fitting made to go inline of the heater hose line to act as the fill point, pressure relief and have ports to vent the steam line from the heads and connect to the overflow tank.
Good news about the Miata coolant temp sensor is that it is nearly exactly the same as the GM one! Same threads, same length, etc. The GM engines have their sensor on the front of the driver side head but there is an extra port on the rear of the passenger head that is plugged from the factory. Simply remove the plug and screw in the Miata sensor and run wire back to your stock miata gauge.
The plug is the allen head bolt between the header and the ground strap.
