Engine Bay Last Update: June 22, 2009 2:55 PM
Engine bay cutting is limited to the gussets where the frame rails meet the firewall. These gussets are required to be cut out by all the V8 kits. No other cutting is required for the Boss Frog Kit.
All cut out, now its time to grind them and add a little bondo to clean them up.
Bondo is complete, time for rust stop primer. Incase you are wondering, I used the sandpaper package as a mobile overspray shield to keep the overspray contained to the the painters tape.
After the primer dried, I added a coat of high glass black paint to the gusset area and the entire side of the frame rails.
To fit in the kit, you need a f-body (camaro/firebird/trans am) oil pan. You also need to get the oil pickup and dipstick assembly. Since David got a CTS-V donor engine, I needed to swap out the pan parts. Below are the new parts.
Next, I swapped out the stock oil pan baffle with the Improved Racing one.
I had to slightly modify the CTS-V LS6 oil splash shield to make the f-body parts fit.
Now that the oil pan is swapped, the engine can go into the car!

Yes, the above picture is photoshopped. The LS6 is "light" for a V8 engine but it isn't THAT light.... :-)
Its in! But don't rejoice too much, it is coming back out. This is just to check for clearance and fuel/brake line routing locations.
Boy, that looks like a lot of wires to go through and figure out where they go
Below are the sway bar mount adapters for the kit. The sway bar has to be moved foward to clear the engine. I do not like the current adapters so I am looking into other solutions.
I moved the sway bar as far rearward as possible to accomidate the puller radiator fan.
